Marine Tourism Western Australia

The Charter Boat Owners and Operators Association (CBOOA) was incorporated in 1985 and is now currently known as Marine Tourism WA (MTWA). MTWA is the only recognised charter industry association in WA with peak body status representing the charter sector to all relevant government departments.

The MTWA is an association made up of charter industry owners and operators who understand the many and varied pressures affecting our industry. Our aim is to assist individual members and our industry to be more profitable, safer and able to provide quality experiences for clients.

The MTWA is a Non for Profit member based organisation, which is run currently run by voluntary committee members. The membership includes members from all types of sizes and charter boat operations throughout Western Australia. Members operate under a code of conduct and compliance with this Code helps build the industry's professional reputation and commitment to quality service delivery.

Charter Fishing Operator Survey

Marine Tourism WA in conjunction with Economic Research Associates are undertaking a charter fishing operator survey funded by Recfishwest through the RFIF to, "Determine the economic contribution the charter fishing sector provides to Western Australia."

If you operated a boat based fishing charter in WA from Jan to Dec 2019 we would like to hear from you.

Your participation in this project is greatly appreciated and paramount to achieving better recognition which will hopefully strengthen the industry’s position within relevant Government departments. Specifically, it will assist in relation to any future fisheries management polices by achieving better support, promotion and communication helping to sustain the charter fishing industry into the future.

All survey responses are sent directly to Dr Paul Mcleod of Economic Research Associates and are coded and kept strictly confidential.  Results from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. If you have any questions about the survey including assistance with answering specific questions please contact Dr Paul Mcleod on email: paul@econsresearch.com or mobile 0418941139.

The survey can be taken online OR by printing out the paper version. It should take about 20 minutes and you will need some data from your FTOL log books and financial data for 2019. The survey is based on January 1st to December 31st 2019.

MTWA understands that 2020 has been a year like no other and completely understand that you are extremely busy trying to operate your own charter businesses. However, this survey can only be successful if the majority of the industry participate. This is the first economic study of the Western Australian charter fishing industry and a successful report will showcase and strengthen our fishing charter industry.
